Let’s get behind Vaitele Soi!

Vaitele Soi may just be the most exciting thing that’s happened in Samoan boxing, for a very long time. With 19 proffessional fights under his belt, and 19 wins -12 of them by way of knockout – Vaitele Soi’s professional reputation makes him more newsworthy as a boxer than Sonny Bill.

Polynesian Xplorer and Event Polynesia teamed up to bring Samoa the Monty Betham Pro-Am Fight in 2007, and we clearly remember Vaitele’s exciting undercard fight in this tournament. In May 2011 you may remember Vaitele Soi appearing in the boxing news, for winning the Last Man Standing tournament, where here beat one of NZ’s best cruiserweight champions – kickboxing legend Shane “Chopper” Chapman, after defeating Mohammed Azzaoui (former WBO African champion) in the semi final.

We received a request for support for this young man today, and we think it well worthy of sharing. Help us gain some traction so that this up and coming coming fighter can achieve the goals that he has been working so steadily towards.

Excerpts from Event Polynesia’s Edwin Puni’s release today are below, and explain the support they are looking for. If you are interested you can contact Edwin Puni as below. Corporate seats & tables are available, and each monetary donation offered receives a free 2012 Vaitele Soi Boxing Calender!

Vaitele Soi and his mother

Every day I thank God for my NZ citizenship (apart from many other things including my family), my ticket to the many opportunities that we take for granted here in Aotearoa. Let me share with you the story of Vaitele Soi – A Mother’s Hope.

Vaitele’s father from Vaovai Falealili died in 2003, today he still lives with his mother Sulufaiga (Taga & Vailele) and younger siblings at their modest home at Vailele, Samoa. Vaitele won Gold medals for Samoa in the amateur tournaments but missed out in the Olympic qualifier in 2008. In October 2009, Vaitele joined the Event Polynesia boxing program.

To get Vaitele to where he is today, our team led by Jenkins Tesese in New Zealand and Tuilagi Saipele Esera in Samoa have been soliciting sponsors (with little success) and fundraise to cover training, fight gears, NZ visa fees, airfares, accommodation and food close to three years now in order for Vaitele and other Samoan boxers and their trainers to participate in the much needed boxing tournaments here in NZ.

According to Mr. Lance Revill, President NZPBA (New Zealand Professional Boxing Association), “Vaitele Soi is the best cruiserweight I have seen for some time.”

In the Last Man Standing tournament in Auckland last May, Vaitele Soi won, beating one of New Zealand’s finest cruiserweight in the final – kickboxing legend Shane “Chopper” Chapman. Soi beat Mohammed Azzaoui (former WBO African champion) in the semi final.

Vaitele Soi is an exciting 25 year old world title prospect and is now one fight away from a proposed world regional title fight in May in New Zealand (if he wins he will be ranked 15 in the world) and we need your help.

With the world still in recession, we are struggling to raise funds for Vaitele’s 23 March 2012 fight at the Auckland Boxing Association (ABA) stadium. Promoter Bruce Glozier has agreed to help by giving us 4 corporate tables ($1,200 for a table of 10 or $120 for a seat at the corporate table) to sell to raise the required funds for Vaitele to participate.

Kindly request to please get in touch if you’re able to buy a corporate table or seats, or if you know someone that is interested to help Vaitele. Otherwise, we are giving away a 2012 Vaitele Soi boxing calendar in return for any monetary donation.
